In lieu of a regular December meeting, we will be having the 3rd annual Queso Diego Holiday Party. This is a special event that is open only to paid members and their guests. The party will be held on our regular meeting date, Tuesday, 12/17, and will begin at 6:00pm. It will be held at Chuck and Joanne West’s home in the Tierrasanta area of San Diego. Address and directions will be provided to those who RSVP as we get closer to the party.
The party is potluck, so please bring food and/or drinks to share, in addition to cheeses. Please ensure that anything you bring is service-ready and does not need to be cooked on-site. Dress is festive casual. For those who keg their homebrew, we have the ability to put kegs on tap for the party.
Note: This special holiday party is only open to paid members of Queso Diego. Members may bring a significant other or guest. If you are not currently a paid member and wish to attend, you may join for the remainder of the year through June by contacting our treasurer – email@example.com
The November meeting of Queso Diego will finish our 2013 Cheeses of the World program with Italian Cheeses. Brian Trout, our future Vice-President, has been preparing an excellent presentation on Italian cheeses that will include cheese samples and pairings, along with lots of information and recipes. This is our final regular meeting of the year, as December is our special holiday party, which we will discuss at the meeting. Attendees are welcome to bring cheeses, drinks, and snacks to share, and Italian cheeses and foods are especially encouraged.
The October meeting of Queso Diego will take place tomorrow, October 15. We will be doing a harvest and Halloween themed pairing night and we encourage members to bring cheeses, foods, and beverages to create pairings. The club will provide a few harvest-themed cheeses and we expect that members will bring lots of interesting things to try. Feel free to bring pre-planned pairings or things to mix-and match with what other attendees bring. The idea behind this is to provide an opportunity before the holiday season for us to try out different combinations and develop ideas to share with our friends and family during the holidays.
A few ideas to get you started:
cheeses and foods involving fall and pumpkin spices, ciders and pumpkin beers and cheeses to pair with them, wine and cheese pairings, liquor or cocktail pairings, foods made with cheeses, etc.
The September meeting of Queso Diego will continue our Cheeses of the World theme with Germany and a celebration of Oktoberfest and German cheeses. Wes McCann of Absolution Brewing will be leading this month’s discussion. Attendees are encouraged to bring German cheeses, foods, and beverages to share.
The August meeting of Queso Diego will continue our Cheeses of the World theme with Brazil. Livia will be leading the discussion on Brazilian cheeses and we will get to sample some imported Brazilian cheeses, learn about Brazilian culture and cheesemaking, and sample foods and beverages. Attendees are encouraged to bring Brazilian food and drinks if possible.
The July meeting of Queso Diego will explore the wonderful world of fondue. We will have members running several stations with various types of cheese, chocolate, and broth fondues and we will rotate through the stations in groups. As we won’t have the space or capacity to have everyone make their own fondue, we have groups running several stations. Attendees who aren’t making fondue are encouraged to contribute bread and vegetables for dipping, snacks, appetizers, and beverages.
