Queso Diego November Meeting Announcement

The November meeting of Queso Diego will feature a presentation by Queso Diego President, Alyssa Humbert, on Italian Cheese, based on her recent trip to Italy. She will talk about Italian cheeses, including the cheeses she found in Italy, and share samples of Italian cheeses. This is our final regular meeting of the year, as December is our special holiday party, which we will discuss at the meeting. Attendees are welcome to bring cheeses and snacks to share, and Italian cheeses and foods are especially encouraged.

We’ll be in a room off to the side of the Tasting Room – you can enter through an exterior door on the left of the main entrance. Meetings are free, but we highly recommend bringing something tasty to share and joining as a member for only $20/year. Please bring a chair to sit on. Outside alcohol is not permitted.

Queso Diego October Meeting Announcement

The October meeting of Queso Diego will feature a presentation by Curt Wittenberg entitled “Animals Make Milk, Microbes Make Cheese”. We will learn how bacteria, molds and yeast help us make our cheese and why understanding their roles can help us improve our cheesemaking. Along the way we will get some insight into how scientists are using cheese to understand how these microbes do their job and what that can tell us about the world around us.

Queso Diego September Meeting Announcement

The September meeting of Queso Diego will be a Homemade Cheese Show and Tell event. We strongly encourage attendees to bring homemade cheeses to share, whether quick and simple or complex cheeses aged for a long time. This is your chance to showcase what you have learned at recent meetings or to get feedback on your cheeses. (If your cheese fails or you run out of time, consider bringing a Summer Cheese dish – just don’t come empty handed!)

Queso Diego June Meeting Announcement

The June Queso Diego meeting will focus on Cheesecakes – both sweet and savory. Cheesecakes can take many forms – as appetizers, entrees, and desserts. We will discuss and share all types of cheesecakes. We encourage attendees to think outside the box and bring a unique cheesecake to share. Alternatively, you may bring accompaniments and non-alcoholic beverages to share as part of the gathering.

Queso Diego May Meeting Announcement

The May Queso Diego Meeting will focus on Entering Cheese into the SD Fair. We will discuss the competition, judging, categories, entry requirements, and provide some tips for maximizing your chances of taking home some ribbons and prizes. Feel free to bring cheeses to be evaluated by some of our experienced club members.

April is Grilled Cheese Month and we’ll be celebrating with our annual Grilled Cheese Meeting on April 19! You won’t want to miss this delicious event!

Please adhere to the following guidelines to accommodate our new space:

Only propane cooking units allowed – NO electric cooking stoves/presses
We need as many propane stoves/grills as possible, please indicate in the RSVP if you can bring yours (with propane included)

We will have separate tables set up for: cooking, prep/ingredients, food/serving, and a gluten-free table (Jeffree is bringing a gluten-free loaf of bread)
If you have a portable table, please bring it – we need as many surfaces as we can!

You can bring the ingredients for a pre-planned recipe, or you can just bring a single ingredient to share and mix-and-match once you arrive at the meeting
We ask that you bring ingredients and prep/cooking supplies to cook 2-3 sandwiches
Cooks will be rotating, so that once you’ve finished grilling, please allow someone else to use your cooking space
Cook 2-3 sandwiches and cut into 6+ pieces each, depending on the size/structure – You won’t be slaving over the stove all night, so don’t be afraid to jump in!
Please prep as much as possible (chopping, mixing, marinating) and bring extra – caramelized onions, roasted peppers, sliced cheeses, meats, sliced fruits/veggies, spices, etc.

If you don’t plan to cook, please bring food to share or ingredients for the cooks to use
Non-members and Guests are allowed – No admittance without food to share or an ingredient to use! 🙂 We ask that non-members and guests join for only $20/year
