Queso Diego August Meeting Announcement

Be sure to put the August meeting on your calendar and plan to attend: Tuesday the 15th at AleSmith:

Our featured presentation is The perfect cuts for cheese using the perfect knives by Sabine Friedrich-Walter and Olaf Walter. Great information for presenting our crafted homemade cheeses.

A reminder for all those Blue Ribbon winners at the Del Mar Cheese Contest: get me your name and address asap so I can submit the order for your 1 year Culture Magazine subscription prize.

This month’s Cheese of the Month is fresh cheese: Chevre, Queso Blanco, and Fromage Blanc. As Larry pointed out, there is plenty of time to make a fresh cheese by next Tuesday for sharing. And as Chris explained, making a 2 or 3 quart batch is easy, convenient, and relatively inexpensive. Let’s share our traditional and flavored creations with the club members and receive positive feedback on our work.

See you then!

Sharing is Caring. — As always, bringing delicious beverages is always strongly encouraged. You might even try a pairing or making or bringing French Cheeses.

It is also recommended to bring your tasting glasses to cut down on those pesky plastic cups (and help eliminate waste).

BTW, The Queso Diego taster glasses are getting printed as I type this. They just might possibly mayhaps be ready for you by this meeting.

See you there.

Queso Diego August Meeting Announcement

The August Queso Diego meeting will focus on Spice, Herb, Vegetable, and Fruit cheeses.  This includes any cheeses that have these ingredients integrated into the curd or as a  coating.  There are many types of relatively easy fresh or unaged cheeses that can be used as base for these ingredients, so I would like to encourage members to make some interesting cheeses this month to share.  It is even possible to use store-bought cheeses (chevre, queso fresco, etc) as a base.

Your imagination is the limit and you can use any combination of base cheese and added ingredients for these.  Feel free to make some more suggestions on the email list.  I hope to see a lot of interesting and unusual cheese at the next meeting.  Larry will also be bringing some base cheese for us to modify with our own ingredients.
