Our monthly meeting will be held next Tuesday at Alesmith Brewery, 9990 Alesmith Ct. Potluck will start at 6:30, and the meeting topic will be Cider Making and Cheese Pairing. Stan Sisson will be our presenter and he is an experienced cider maker. We will have a few homebrewed ciders for sampling along with cheese pairings.
Queso Diego Anniversary Party – No Regular February Meeting
In lieu of our regular monthly meeting, we will be holding our annual “Bubbly and Cheese” pairing to celebrate Queso Diego’s 11th anniversary as a club. This is a special sit-down guided pairing event for members and their guests. If you would like to join as a member and attend, contact membership@quesodiego.org for details.
Members should have received the sign-up information via the club email list. If you are a member and did not, please contact the officers.
We will resume normal monthly meetings in March and we hope to see you then.
Queso Diego January Virtual Meeting Announcement
With the recent surge in COVID cases in the county, the Cheese Board has made the difficult decision to hold our next meeting via Zoom. We had a great presentation on Cider Making and Cheese Pairing from Stan Sisson planned, but we will postpone this to the March meeting. The topic this month will be a discussion of cheese production in the United States, featuring slides from a recent visit to the Tillamook Creamery in Oregon. We look forward to meeting face-to-face again when it is safe to do so.
Our 11th anniversary party is still on! We are optimistic that this COVID surge will pass before the party. The Board will monitor the situation and will provide advance notice if changes are needed. This has been an amazing event in the past and will feature five pairings of cheese and bubbly libations. The member price of $15 ($25 for guests) is a bargain compared to similar cheese pairing events. This is sure to sell out, so be sure to sign up soon. More information can be found at: https://quesodiego.org/anniversary-pairing-event-tickets/ . Please note the PayPal instructions specified on the website.
Also note that ticket prices will increase to $20 members/$30 guests after January 31, if not sold out by that time. Our venue at Marina Village can only accommodate 80 guests. The event will replace the February meeting on February 15.
The Zoom link was sent out to the members email list.
Queso Diego November Meeting Announcement
“Holiday Cheese Display”
Tuesday, November 16, at 6:30 PM
The Barrel Room
AleSmith Brewing Co.
9990 AleSmith Court
San Diego, CA 92126
Greetings Queso Diego,
As usual we’ll start off at 6:30 with our potluck munchies.
The general meeting will start at 7:00 and we’ll get together and share ideas for centerpieces, displays and presentations made primarily from cheese. You’re encouraged to be creative and make a display using any cheese as well as charcuterie and accompaniments.
We’d love to have you share your ideas for the holidays.
We also have our annual elections this month. The board will present a slate of officers for discussion and approval. We look forward to having everyone join us.
Remember to bring a chair and a coat. It’s getting a little cooler.
Regarding the noise:
I’m sure everyone is aware that the back room can be a bit noisy. They have so much beer to can that they’ve been running 24/7. Peter is aware of the noise.
They are in the process of getting a faster canning line that will be installed a little further away. This should hopefully be done within the next couple of months.
Thanks for putting up with this but it will get better.
Queso Diego October Meeting Announcement
Please join us for a great meeting this month:
Queso Diego October Meeting
“Celebration of Cakes Made from Cheese”
Tuesday, October 19th at 6:30 PM
The Barrel Room
AleSmith Brewing Co.
9990 Alesmith Court
San Diego, CA 92126
Greetings Queso Diego,
To kick off our celebration of cakes made from cheese, we are asking guests to share a cheesecake during the potluck portion of the meeting. Remember, cheesecakes can be sweet or savory so maybe we can make this a meal. Of course, we wouldn’t want to eat only cheesecake for our meal, would we? So, if you don’t want to make a cheesecake, please feel free to contribute a dish to round out our meal.
Following the potluck, at 7 PM will proceed with the usual club business followed by a presentation on “Cheese Celebration Cakes” by Curt Wittenberg. These are cakes that are actually constructed from cheese. We will discuss design considerations, decoration ideas, serving and, somehow, we will work in opportunities to taste more cheese. And, of course, members who bring cheesecakes will also have an opportunity to talk about their contribution.
